a found treasure

For years I've admired Rachel Ashwell and her Shabby Chic style, so along with that came an infatuation for this chunky wood rosary that I found on her website.

I love it, but I don't love the price tag...$188 is a bit out of my range no matter how much I love it.

But lo and behold, last week when I was busy stocking my little booth at the Seneca Cannery, I came across this...

It was marked $20, not to mention the booth where I found it was having a 40% off sale, so I snatched it up for a whopping $12.  I was so tickled! Granted, it's not identical to the Shabby Chic one, but I love it just the same.  I haven't found the perfect spot for it yet, but I'm thinking it will end up in the living room or our bedroom at some point.  Right now, it's resting comfortably on the farmhouse cabinet in the kitchen.

I even love the little heart detail on this version.

Junque Jubilee!

For anyone that didn't get a chance to make it to our June event, I wanted to make sure you got to at least see some pics of our Junque Jubilee!  I must say, it was a fabulous weekend!  Thank you to all of our customers for all of your support!!

I'll let the pictures do most of the talking.

This 19th century European bench was to die for!  I'm happy to say that it sold, but was sad to see it go.

We had some really great pieces in the shoppe this month.  Look at the fabulous dress form and old mail bag.  Love!

Perfectly chippy garden balls and succulents mixed with tarnished silver.  One of my favorite combinations.

The french grey sideboard was an old dresser with two non-working drawers, so I knocked them out and created an area for basket storage.  Perfect for an entryway or as a resting place for those lovely 50" TV's that our husbands love ;)  This one went to a new home on Sunday.

Seashells and silver.  Another great combo.

And what's a Junque Jubilee without a square dancing crinoline?!

We're already planning and prepping for next month's event. It's going to be a good one.  Hope to see you all July 6-8!

better late than never

I received a nice little package in the mail today from one of my photographer friends, Alana Beall, who owns Vanity's Edge.

and then it dawned on me...

I haven't shared any pics of our Grand Opening.  Shame on me!

You may remember me mentioning Alana before.  She designed my logo, business cards, and market calendars.  I'm telling you, this chick is beyond talented!! She came to the grand opening to snag a few goodies and snapped several gorgeous photographs of our first day in business.  I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.  I'm still in awe!

She even got one of me in action.

In the few short years that have led up to D'Bohemia coming to be, there have been countless furniture transformations and as long as you all keep supporting us the way that you have my plan is that there will be many, many more.  With that being said, I thought you might like to take a walk down memory lane with me to see some favorites...

Unfortunately I can't find the before pic to this one, but just picture a sad brown curio cabinet.  This was one of my favorite make-overs ever.

I even made a 'bakery' sign with the cast-off door to this cabinet.

There are lots more where these came from, so we'll be sharing more before & afters in the coming weeks!

In other shoppe news...tomorrow we'll be open 5-9 p.m. for Havre de Grace's first ever Girls' Night Out.  Lots of prizes, discounts, and giveaways are being planned by all the merchants in town.  We'll be offering 15% off to all of our customers in honor of the event, so if there's a piece you've been eyeing, come on out and snag it with your discount ;)

double duty

Although we have a large variety of items at the shoppe, I always think of the furniture pieces as the heart and soul of D'Bohemia. Painting cast-off furniture is how I got my start in this business and it will always be the thing I enjoy most about it. Because each piece of furniture is hand picked and hand painted I always get excited to see it go to a new loving home ;)

We love to ask our customers where they're planning to use the pieces they purchase and though most intend to use their dressers as dressers and their sideboards as sideboards, etc., I thought it might be nice to show you how some of these pieces can serve double duty.

Here are a few examples...

A sideboard vanity, which I love, but I can't stop staring at that gorgeous mirror!

How about a glass front cabinet in the bathroom for towel storage?

Or a curio cabinet in your office as a great storage option? Who said you have to use a bookcase?

Now on to my favorite...dressers.

And last, but not least...as a changing table.  Vintage dressers are usually the perfect size!

a little recap

It's been two weeks since I last blogged.

 I can't even count the number of times I've read on other blogs that when you're busy, the first thing to go by the wayside is blogging...well...now I know that to be true.  I've had grand dreams of posting every furniture makeover and every transformation within the shoppe's walls, but with the amount of work that goes into each month's event I'm realizing that may not be realistic, so I will do my best to share as much as I can with you here on the blog.  I'm also finding that Facebook has been an easier way to keep up with posting and letting customers know what's going on each month, so feel free to follow along over there as well.

Just in case you don't follow us on Facebook, I thought you might want to know what has happened in the last two weeks.

We transformed the shoppe for our Boho Block Party May Event and I've got some pictures to show you...

It was a great event and we sold a ton of merchandise! Today was my day of rest and the girls and I will be back at it tomorrow hunting for next months goodies!

searching high and low for great vintage

Since a good percentage of D'Bohemia is funky, beautiful vintage, we spend a good amount of time at auctions, estate sales and flea markets. Lately it seems many others are looking for the same treasures, making prices go up, sometimes putting a lot of our coveted items out of our range. What's a girl to do when this happens?? Well, we're going more often and networking, sourcing out new contacts and places. We're on a mission to stock up so we're out treasure hunting several times a week these days. This week is no exception. Tomorrow at 5am, I'm on my way to pick up my mama and then we're headed out of state in hopes of finding some fabulous deals & style to bring back to Maryland. Wish us luck!  And of course there will be pics to follow.
