milk paint makeover

Several months ago, I talked about starting on a big boy bedroom for my 3 year old.  It's not done quite yet, but we're getting there.  A few things are finished in the room, but we still have a little more to do before the reveal.  I decided to bring home a dresser that we had hanging out at the shoppe to use in Dominick's room.  When we originally found this piece it was covered in a couple of layers of blue latex paint.  {I hunted for a before photo, but couldn't find one.}

I contemplated stripping it down to the old pine finish {which I may do in the future}, but for now I gave it a facelift by painting it with Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in Typewriter and I love the way it turned out.

Don't mind the missing knob on the bottom right (as I call attention to it).  I've got to get another one the next time I'm at Hobby Lobby.

straw hat collection

I've been adding to my collection of straw hats recently.  These two are the latest additions - both thrifted.  Once the walls in the living room are repainted, they'll be hung in there with the others I have stashed away.

They're the perfect way to fill an empty wall and add instant texture to a room.  Here are a few images I've collected on my Pinterest boards over the last couple of years.  Maybe you'll find them inspiring as well.

I'm hoping to purchase another lovely hat to wear this summer at the beach.  I'm thinking a fedora.  Something like this...

welcome to the new site

We are so excited about our new blogsite design! Thank you Carolyn, you did an amazing job! 

We still have a few kinks to work out {like directing the website to www.dbohemia.com instead of dbohemia.blogspot.com}.  For some reason we're having some trouble with this.  Until we get that sorted out, the best way to avoid missing any posts is to subscribe via email in the sidebar to the right.

So, what's new?

Well, if you've been in the shoppe lately you may have noticed our new tagline on the door.

And on our business cards.

And now, it's also at the top of the website.  We like to think of this as more than just a tagline.  For us it's a decorating mantra. We truly believe that creating a home you love and love to be in can change your life.

There are a few other new things as well...

Our design services are now listed in the navigation bar, as well as an updated 'about' page in case you wanted to know a little more about Amy and I.  We also added our Pinterest links and Instagram feeds in the sidebar, because we just can't get enough of those two things.

We're finishing up a couple of projects and taking on a few more, so we'll be updating our portfolio soon.  We can't wait to show you what we've been working on!

tight quarters & an announcement

If you're one of our regular customers, you've seen this room many times.  If you have been to one of our design workshops you've seen how crowded it can get.  The photo below was taken during Miss Mustard Seed's visit to our store back in November.

Well, we came up with a solution. We are turning this backroom into a our design studio/classroom for our design workshops.  Don't worry, we'll still have plenty of space for all of our new and vintage goodies.  We'll also set-up the studio with items that will be available for purchase by special order.

The addition of the design studio/classroom will allow us to make our workshops a bit more interactive and hands-on as well as allowing us to roll out our design services.  Stay tuned for more info on those in the next couple of weeks.

our word for 2013...a few days late

This post is a tad delayed, but Amy and I decided to jump on the bandwagon and put our mission for 2013 out there.  I've always been a big fan of putting your dreams and goals out into the universe in hopes that doing so will somehow magically make them come true.

So here it is...

Do?

Yes, it's probably the most simple word out there, but that's how we like it...simple.  What does 'do' mean to us?  We are both big dreamers and are never void of ideas.  The hard part for us is actually put those dreams into action and DOING them.  This is true in all facets of our life: home, work, spirituality, health.  This is what we'll be doing more of in 2013:

#1 blogging

We are huge fans of many different blogs out there on the interwebs {I'll share a list of those with you in another post}.  Rather than being sporadic with our posts, we want to be more consistent and provide you with more of our projects at home, more behind-the-scenes at the store, and our basic day-to-day musings.

#2 completing projects at home

 Notice I didn't say start more projects.  Starting them doesn't seem to be the problem, completing them does. This one definitely coincides with #1, because more completed projects at home, means more content to share with you on the blog.  Like most people, Amy and I both have a mile long list of things to accomplish in our homes.  For those of you who are saying, "Hmm...I don't have any projects that I need to complete at home."  Well, lucky you.  We, on the other hand, have a lot of work to do!  We'll be tackling these room by room.

#3 creating community

There is an abundance of people out there {online and locally} that thoroughly enjoy making their house a home.  We know, because we've met so many of you at our design workshops.  As we move forward this year, we will be striving to connect even more with this community.  We have several things planned to get that ball rolling and we'll be announcing one of them in the next couple of weeks.
